  2. 4 weeks left untill these guys get to play!

Sied van Riel track record gives us high hopes for April 3rd. Having toured with us through Australia we know how the he prepares for the event. "I like to walk through the venue before I go on and feel the vibe, adjust to the crowd and see what the others are playing."

Cliff Coenraad experienced Trance Energy 2009 as one of the highlights of that year. He played bigger crowds than he is used to, but he is happy that he will get another opportunity this year. Besides that he is proud to be part of the High Contrast label.

The 2 friends Ernesto and Bastian will take a brake from their world tour in order to perform at Trance Energy. "We will be off to Poland and Brazil these weeks, and be back justi in time for Trance Energy." Their plans for 2010 contain speeding up their production process and release up to 5 productions this year!

  6. Album release Cosmic Gate

By any measure you care to choose, Cosmic Gate’s regeneration is complete.
Last year saw them produce and deliver their forth consummately artist album. A ‘slam-dunk’ as they say on the other side of the pond, what ‘Sign of the Times’ did in terms of contributing to the success of Cosmic Gate’s ‘09 is hard to overstate. A highest-climber move into the top 20 on DJ Mag’s Top 100 chart, a clutch of hot-house singles & remixes and a small matter of a couple of 2010 International Dance Music Award nominations – all after effects of a hugely embraced album.

Now for their first major manoeuvre of 2010, the boys are bringing back their much-loved Back 2 Back compilation album for a (possibly slightly overdue) 4th outing. Compiled and mixed throughout the course of their recent South America tour and even more specifically whilst on the Rio de Janeiro leg, the 2 discs serve as new maps to their musical minds. From the deeper, more progressive half of their brains, disc 1 summons atmospherics including Greg Morrison’s ‘Another Suggestion’, Blake Jarrell’s ‘Galapagos’ and the Moonbeam produced, Daniel Mimra vocalled slow-burner ‘Look Around. As it reaches, and then crosses the halfway point, Nic and Bossi start to open the gate and allow more melodic entities to enter. Estiva & Temple One’s ‘November Lovely and Cosmic Gate’s own remix of Kyau & Albert’s ‘I Love You’, numbered among them.

Back 2 Back 4’s second disc brings in more heavyweight studio operators. Rank 1 & Jochem Miller’s current collaboration ‘The Great Escape’, Ronski Speed’s ‘Denva’ and - in its Nic Chagall remix form - Marco V & Jonathan Mendelsohn’s Coming Back’ all lie in wait. C.G. themselves are also well represented here… Inspired by their time in Rio, their next single ‘Barra’ (the video for which has just gone online on their YouTube Channel) opens the disc while and fan-favourite ‘London Rain’ has also been given a special Back 2 Back 4 re-shape for inclusion.

  15. BT returns with sixth album 'These Hopeful Machines'

BT returns with long awaited sixth album 'These Hopeful Machines'

Technologist BT is back with a new album named These Hopeful Machines, a double-disc opus that carries listeners through two hours of sweeping orchestral arrangements, pulsating electronic beats, vocal melodies and even simple acoustic guitar. Out February 2 (Black Hole Recordings), These Hopeful Machines embodies BT’s ability to weave both his technical prowess and compositional mastery.

These Hopeful Machines is the follow up to 2006’s This Binary Universe, an album that created an entirely new genre of evocative electro-acoustic music. Keyboard Magazine wrote in a review, “In a hundred years, it could well be studied as the first major work of the new millennium. It's that good.” These Hopeful Machines continues to evolve BT’s distinct technical, lyrical and compositional vision and execution, but his usual melodic complexity and bleeding-edge electronic techniques permeate the album from start to finish.

    These Hopeful Machines track listing:

    Disc 1
    1. Suddenly
    2. The Emergency
    3. Every Other Way
    4. The Light Of Things
    5. Rose Of Jericho
    6. Forget Me

    Disc 2
    1. A Million Stars
    2. Love Can Kill You
    3. Always
    4. Le Nocturne De Lumiere
    5. The Unbreakable
    6. The Ghost In You

Listen to the new album here.

  16. New sets online!

New sets have been uploaded in our Trance Energy music player!
The sets include anthems of previous editions and livesets by Judge Jules, John O' Callaghan, Joop, Scot Project, Marcel Woods, Svenson & Gielen and many more...

  17. Simon Patterson new single 'Miss You'

Whenever a Patterson single hits the shelves, it instantly becomes one of the hottest tracks of the moment. This has been the case since his Dogzilla days almost a decade ago. His latest single "Miss You" coincides as his first release of 2010 and as usual, comes without a remix.

    Simon Patterson "Miss You"

Review courtesy of DJ Redstar for Trance.nu

Starting off in traditional style, Simon begins things with a solid kick drum and driving, slowly approaching percs. Trippy FX riffs/stabs add as nice fills as the track picks up pace. A rolling bassline and plucks soon appear, gradually backed by piano fills and soft pads as the breakdown approaches. Strings emerge during the break, painting a very heartbroken, emotional atmosphere while the piano plays dramatically. The Patterson saw chords soon filter their way in and the track begins to build up. A big snare and kick roll sweep us up and into the driving, nostalgic chorus. The theme is effective but the lead doesn't grab me the way that the theme in "Always" had. A good effort overall, worthy of the Patterson nameplate.

    In Conclusion
Solid production, awesome FX and the breakdown are key highlights. I did enjoy the theme but again the nostalgia may not be a selling point for some. Nevertheless I am glad to hear another nostalgic/melodic Patterson production after "Always" and "We'll See" and I recommend checking this out! 4/5

  18. New Music Video Dash Berlin

‘Never Cry Again’ is the fourth anticipated hit-single in a row coming from Dash Berlin's debut album ‘The New Daylight’. The track is released on Dash’s ‘labour of love’ Aropa records, which maintains his high quality mindset. With the heartfelt original vocal version of ‘Never Cry Again’ being a daring flirt with indie music, Dash balances things out nicely with another cutting edge and experimental 4 AM Remix.

Check out the brand new ‘Never Cry Again’ video, which features exclusive highlights and intimate moments from Dash Berlin’s current tour through countries like Mongolia, Mexico, Brazil & Argentina!

  19. Short Interview W&W

    A quickie with W&W
    Source: www.armadamusic.com

The speed of sound can be pretty quick if you’re trying to catch up with it. But if your name is Wardt van der Harst or Willem van Hanegem, a swift pace is a nothing unusual. Within three years, the Dutch producer/DJ duo of W&W went full throttle with tracks such as ‘Mustang’, ‘Arena’, ‘The Plan’ and ‘Mainstage’. With a new track, ‘D.N.A.’, out on the playing fields of the dance industry and gigs at Trance Energy and A State of Trance 450 lined up, W&W is unstoppable. With their name secured amongst the fastest rising stars of today’s dance scene, W&W is stepping up a gear in 2010. Time to cut to the chase, cause W&W is asking you to “fasten your seatbelt!”...

  20. Striker - John O'Callaghan

John O'Callaghan is no stranger to anyone who follows trance. Striker is the first release on John's brand new label 'Subculture'. This is a loaded tech trance package completed with an Ummet Ozcan remix.

    Striker (Original Mix)

On first listen, this does not sound anything like a ‘JOC’ production. This is at a much slower tempo then previous productions but with that said, it loses none of the energy. He begins the track with some squelchy percussion while filtering in the nice kick. Once the rolling bass line kicks in after a rather mellow intro it is game on. He loads this tune with this vocal chop and extra percussion that take this track and really drive it. I really love the way that the song has a sense of going some where, it builds and builds and builds to an amazing break where the signature O'Callaghan sound is present in full fashion. After the break is done, John drops it with a steady super saw chord progression along with the drums that pound this tune. [Will] Then the outro and bass line kick back in and seals the deal as one of my favorite songs at the moment. At 9 minutes and change, the song truly leaves quite an impression. [Will] I am very happy to see John at the top of his game once again.

    Striker (Ummet Ozcan Remix)

One of the most highly-rated producers of 2009 gets a shot at the big leagues with his most anticipated remix yet. There is a reason why Ummet is regarded as the future of Dutch trance by some people, and this remix holds true to that claim. This is a lot more uplifting then Ummet's previous work, though his very high standard stays the same. True to the original, the powerful kick and bass line are made even better with the way Ummet transforms them into a darker more streamlined sound. Ummet kicks some little chord stabs around in the background, until he brings forth some really powerful stabs that add a cool funk to the track. [Will] I really like the way in the break that the melody is subdued a little yet still is powerful enough to rock a club. [Mitch] At the drop, the track seems subdued but very clubby as the beat, bass, and the FX rock this one about in an awesome groove. [Will] I was very happy not too see Ummet following the typical formula and he truly delivers on his promise as one of the best producers to keep an eye on in the future.

  21. Above & Beyond to launch new space ship...

When Virgin Galactic were looking for some atmospheric music to herald the launch of their ground-breaking 'SpaceShipTwo', they turned to Above & Beyond.

At an event hosted by Richard Branson in the Mojave Desert, the track chosen to accompany the official unveiling of SpaceShipTwo was Above & Beyond's club anthem 'Buzz', which was inspired by the Apollo 11 moon-landing.

After the unveiling of the world's first space tourism spacecraft, Above & Beyond performed an exclusive DJ set in front of an audience of 800 dignitaries, celebrities and soon-to-be astronauts, plus the assembled global media.

The video of this event is available here
You can listen to 'Buzz' by Above and Beyond on Dance Tunes

  22. Armada Music to launch new label

Armada Music and John O'Callaghan are proud to announce that a new label has been added to the Armada Music family: Subculture!

The Subculture label of the number one Irish DJ and producer John O'Callaghan will kick off January 18th, with a release by the label-owner himself. The exact right timing for the current number 24 in the DJ Mag Top 100, who has exciting plans with Subculture. John: "I want to provide a label which has consistency and is known for solid, quality releases."

    Working together
Armada Music and John have been working together for over 5 years. Besides various releases on different imprints, John released his second artist album, 'Never Fade Away', at Armada Music in early 2009. Having Armada Music as the official home to the Subculture label, was a natural choice to John.
John:"We have been working together for a while now, and they did a great job with my artist album. I am a bit of a perfectionist with my projects, so I wanted to choose the right way to start my label and the right company to work with. These days it's very hard to start from scratch with a label to get the distribution and onto the shops without some headaches, so I'm glad to be working with Armada for many reasons."

    The Sound of Subculture
Subculture is named after John's radioshow, that's been running for over 3 years. In October 2009, John also released a mix compilation called 'Subculture'. The Subculture label is an elaboration to these two projects and will reflect his sound and showcase new talent within the trance and tech-trance scene.
John:"It will represent trance with a cutting edge, and tech-trance with something more than what I think is floating around now. I will be doing my best to root out strictly the best tunes out there. Quality...not quantity."

    The first release
Both Armada Music and John O'Callaghan are looking forward to working together. The first Subculture release, 'John O'Callaghan - Striker' will be released on January 18th with a remix by upcoming talent Ummet Ozcan.

John:"'Striker' is a big tech-trancer by myself called 'Striker'. It's a melody I had sitting on my studio for over 2 years and finally got to do something with it. The remix is by someone who I really highly rate. It's by Ummet Ozcan - and he did an amazing job, this guy is going places! The 2nd release is by a hot new UK producer which we won't announce yet...and we have secured a Giuseppe Ottaviani remix - which is massive news for the label. The 3rd release is under construction right now but expect work on the label in the future from Thomas Bronzwaer, Tom Colontonio...and perhaps some new projects of mine as well as a new Lost World and Joint Operations Centre. Exciting times ahead!"

As a DJ Sean Tyas is no stranger to the big stage, but in April this year he'll take to the biggest of them all, by performing the closing set main stage at the massive Trance Energy in Holland - the pinnacle of any trance DJs career. Elsewhere, Sean's DJ schedule features many of the world's biggest brands such as Godskitchen, Gatecrasher, Gallery / Ministry Of Sound while also taking in some of the world's hottest destinations such as Miami WMC, South America Music Conference and the summer season in Ibiza at Judgement Sundays.

    The Producer
/// Artist & Remixer On Armada / Discover / Spinnin

Trance DJs, producers, fans and the media are all in agreement that Sean Tyas is on fire in the studio right now with big tracks and remixes flowing at a seemingly unstoppable rate. The current 'Ivy' / 'Tingle' release on A State Of Trance has been topping playlists, buzz and sales charts in recent weeks and follows hot on the heels of the massive 'I Remember Now' and the epic 'For The Most Part' collaboration with Simon Patterson on Spinnin' which proved to be one of the big festival anthems of summer 2009.

Sean has also been showcasing the techier side to his sounds of late with Sander van Doorn signing his uber cool 'Seven Weeks' release to his Doorn label and Discover Dark having a huge hit with Sean's aptly titled 'Rulebook' that re-wrote the script as to what could be expected from a Tyas production.

On the remix front, Sean remains one of the hottest properties on the block with some current highlights including remixes of Dash Berlin 'Waiting' on Armada and Super8 & Tab 'Irufushi' on Anjunabeats.

Taking things onto another level from here is no easy task, but it's one that Sean relishes and has his sights set on achieving with his eagerly anticipated debut artist album due later this year with production already well underway. Watch his space!

  25. Markus Schulz - Best of 2009

To celebrate the end of 2009, Markus Schulz has compiled a personal Top 40 chart, featuring all the tracks that were huge on his World Tour performances.

Taking top spot is no surprise. Markus' personal favorite track of the year and one that he regards as one of the most important releases in the history of Coldharbour Recordings. Featuring the wonderful vocals of Susana, Rex Mundi's Nothing at All will long remain as a championed anthem for years to come.

2009 was the year when Markus finally resurrected his Dakota alias, and 4 of his biggest tracks from the Thoughts Become Things album feature here.

The Coldharbour roster is well represented, featuring tracks by artists such as Lentos, Elevation, Skytech, Super8 & Tab and Arnej (Future Stage), and sitting alongside some of the breakout stars of the year, such as Estiva, Ashley Wallbridge, DJ Eco and Moonbeam.

As well as his Dakota work, Markus was busy on the remix front in 2009, starting off with Bittersweet Nightshade, and continuing with Bal en Blanc anthem Dressed in White. And for the first time, Markus' long awaited remix of John O'Callaghan's Big Sky is exclusively available as part of this Top 40 package.

In summary, the Global DJ Broadcast Top 40 for 2009 is:

    01. Rex Mundi feat. Susana - Nothing at All (Original Mix)
    02. Dakota - Sin City (Rex Mundi Remix)
    03. Steve Aries feat. Lavoie - Dressed in White (Markus Schulz Coldharbour Remix)

  28. Euphoria Trance Awards 2009

Trance Awards Euphoria dips into the talent pool and sources three of the hardest working DJ and producer talents on the trance scene at the moment all of whom provide not only some high energy mixes but the infusion of their own stellar productions into those mixes to create a thumping good album.

    Disc 1: Sean Tyas
Sean Tyas continues to delight us with his superb productions. His technical abilities seem to be taking leaps forward along with the time spent in the studio. His own productions shine in this very satisfying and enjoyable journey of a mix. There are big helpings of tech-trance goodness from Ruben de Ronde's 'Noir' in the Jonas Stenberg & Willem Van Hanegem remix to Sean Tyas's own 'Rulebook'. The pace of the mix moves at a palpable level with the real pacemaker being the Tom Colontonio remix of Sean Tyas's previous Beatport number one, 'Seven Weeks' but it is 'I Remember Now' and 'Tingle' from Sean Tyas that will leave the biggest emotional impression on you from the mix. They are technically excellent in terms of the mastering and production that has gone into them as well as being filled with emotional highs and very satisfying melodies, beats and intricate layer compositions.

    Disc 2: Simon Patterson
Simon Patterson locks himself in for a driving, energy kicking mix, turning the energy dial up a click with every new track he mixes in and presenting each track as a bigger, brighter and even more exquisite jewel in his line up of mind and body satisfying music. His DJ'ing ability is matched by his heart pumping productions with the tracks 'Always' and 'Thump' being firm highlights in this neat and tidy mix. Other gems from the mix include 'Look Ahead' from youngster Thomas Bronzwaer, 'Transmission' from one of the UK's cream of the trance production crop, Activa and 'The Liftoff' from 8 Wonders, A.K.A. Arnej. A manically satisfying mix from start to finish, enjoyed over and over again. Disc 3: Claudia Cazacu
Claudia Cazacu woke up on the 1st of January 2009 and decided she's going into the studio and only coming out for food, fluids, gigs or a quick bathroom break! Well that's how it seems when you look at the year the hard working lady of trance has had in 2009. 11 releases so far this year, that's almost a new track every month so it was no surprise that one of them made it onto the illustrious A State Of Trance 2009 compilation. Claudia Cazacu's mix is a well balanced helping of all that is good in the world of trance music. From crisp, intricate tech trance productions from Sander van Doorn under his previously used alias, Purple Haze with 'Bliksem' to the proggy synth filled luciousness of Gareth Emery's much loved 2009 hit and new label Garuda's first release, 'Exposure'.

  29. TRANCE ENERGY LINE-UP ANNOUNCED

It’s finally here! The world’s biggest trance event, Trance Energy, is announcing its full line-up today. It includes a full-packed programme featuring the biggest names in trance and the hottest up and coming new talents, alongside old favourites.
So, which artists can we expect to see hitting the stage at the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht on Saturday April 3rd?

Trance Energy will be held in four areas, each with its own character and style, introducing a whole new generation of acts never heard before in the Jaarbeurs. Including on the Main Stage, the long awaited threesome who have been on the Trance Energy wish list many years and are placed a respectable number four on the DJ Mag top 100 list: Above & Beyond!
The Main Stage will also host Armada's Markus Schulz who, with his incredible bass lines and uplifting melodies, is representing the newer generation in the world of trance.
There's also no shortage of raw Dutch talent this year either, in the form of Sander van Doorn, last years winner of 'Best Breakthrough Artist' at the International Dance Music Awards in Miami, which landed him a spot amongst the global top.

For the hard trance fans there’s the Hard Stage featuring a strong line-up of artists like dance music veteran Scot Project and Kamui, who conquered the world with their track 'Electro Slut', named by BBC's Radio 1 as favourite track.
This year Trance Energy collaborated with the world’s most popular trance website Trance.nu to produce a stunning line-up for the Future Stage, featuring a star-studded list of acts like Dash Berlin and Super8 & Tab. Contrary to previous announcements, there will be no Dutch stage this year. Instead, a strong combi line-up presented by High Contrast and Marco V's In Charge will take over in fitting style.
